Topic: More updates I realise this is a very late reply, but if you use the regular login page from your phone you can still use openID. Make sure to check the “remember me” box. Then simply change back to the backpackit.com/mob pages and you should be fine (or I am!) |

Topic: Option for making messages private There are plenty of solutions, but I’d rather reduce the number of mediums I use – hence my wish to work in this way within Backpack. Hopefully this could be one of the things they add when they do their quick update that usually follows a launch. Fingers crossed! |

Topic: Option for making messages private Taking a page out of Wikipedia’s book, try setting up a User Talk page, a page that only you and a certain user could see. Both of you subscribe to the RSS feed for the page to see when a change is made. It’s not an excellent solution, but something to consider. |

Topic: Option for making messages private I posted about this on the blog, but perhaps this is a better place. I use Backpack for myself, but would like to involve other people who I work with from time to time. Its easy enough to share pages with select people, but I can’t use the Newsroom/messages feature as it is, as everybody would see all the messages. Would it be possible to include a button on the New Message page to restrict the viewability (not a real word, I know :)) of messages to only those people it is being sent to? I imagine this could be something like the ‘Private’ button in Basecamp. I’d like to centralise as much of my communication as possible in Backpack, but can’t do it as things now stand. If anyone else would find this useful please add your support here! |

Topic: Item orders' difference between PC and mobile version's backpack Why is the order of items in PC version’s backpack different from that of mobile version’s backpack? Because the order of items in mobile version’s backpack is defferent from PC version, it must be Inconvenient probably for most mobile users to use mobile version’s backpack. |

Topic: More updates Hi everyone, Sorry about the OpenID problem on Backpack’s mobile version. We are looking at it and we’ll evaluate what can be done. We appreciate your feedback (even when it reminds us that something slipped). Thanks. |

Topic: Backpackit Mobile can't work w/ OpenID Hi guys, In addition to the “Can’t Login” work-around, you can actually start by logging in on your phone using the direct Backpack URL (don’t append /mob) using OpenID. Then, once logged in, you can access the /mob path and use the regular mobile interface. We’ll definitely continue to think of ways that we can improve the situation and make it easier for people use both the mobile interface and OpenID. |

Topic: Backpackit Mobile can't work w/ OpenID Shawn Y and Eitan Burcat: I’ve figured out that you have to go to the backpack page on your COMPUTER and click on the “Can’t Login?” link on the page. They will then send you a username and password you can use. However, there is one HUGE problem. They send you a password that is like 30 characters long – very hard to accurately type in on a phone, because every thing you type enters in as an asterisk, making it easy to lose your place. I’m on a windows smartphone with a keyboard and have finally given up on Backpack mobile due to the tedious nearly impossible process of logging in. Very frustrating. You should be able to use your old regular password (before open ID). For now I guess I’ll have to stop using open ID with backpack! It was so convenient to use with my other 37signals pages. How about it 37signals?!!!! Can we improve this process? |

Topic: More updates I have lost mobile phone access as well. I love the sites, we have started using a paid Basecamp account at work and I am going to have them get a Backpack account for work as well but I need mobile phone access. I may have to switch back to a regular log in for all of the accounts. Still love the site, but it would be nice to see this resolved. |

Topic: Backpack not working Interesting, I saw quite a bit of bitchin’ about the system being down. True, I was a little surprised by a commercial app going sideways but lets keep things in context. It costs all of $5 a month on the basic plan folks. If this is mission critical to your organization then perhaps you should look elsewhere. In my very humble opinion, the folks behind the scenes appear to be living up to their part of the bargain quite well. Very low cost software, doing an excellent job of Keeping It Simple Stupid. Kudo’s to the folks ( coders et al. ) behind 37signals. |

Topic: Backpack not working We have extensive server monitoring 24/7 with mobile alerts and multiple people being alerted in the case of critical server unavailability. We’ve fixed problems at all hours of the night. Our response time to critical issues related to service unavailability is excellent. However, in this case the issue was a single Javascript file not rendering properly. Individual Javascript files aren’t monitored by emergency alert services. The servers responded to pings, the backups ran properly, there were no database issues, all monitoring systems were go. We’re still checking into the reason for the Javascript file issue, but everything is back to normal now. We can’t go back and change the past, we can only apologize for not being quicker to notice and fix this issue. |

Topic: Backpack not working @Jason: good. As I talked my spouse into switching from Google Calendar to paid Backpack, this was quite an embarassment for me also. @richallum: Do they really leave their servers unattended at night? Wow. I thought 37signals had the size to monitor the functionality of their service at night (e.g. by someone overseas) and ring the admins on the mobile in cases like this. |

Topic: Backpack not working All fixed. We’re still looking into the root cause of the issue, but the issue is fixed. You may need to force reload your browser and/or clear your cache so the new Javascript is loaded up. Once again we’re sorry for the inconvenience. |
