Then use Dial2do which is still free. Email your pages or notes etc to backpack

  • Bonus – works better transcribing international english accents (ie non US)
  • Bonus – works in a dozen countries (not just US)
  • Bonus – you can use a landline even though it says mobile/cellphone

Arrivederci Jott!

BTW, Jott is no longer free. As a matter of fact, it is kind of expensive now. It IS a nice service, and to give credit where it is due, the developer DID allow completely free use while in beta – I used it free for a year and a half. It’s now $3.95 per month for Jotts of 15 seconds max, and – hold on to your wallets! – $12.95 for Jotts of 30 seconds max.

The Backpack Jottlink was pulled because of ongoing problems that most users were having with it. I managed to install it when it was up there for a while, but I must admit that while it works occasionally, more often it seems to “get confused” and starts acting really weird.

That’s too bad; I am still using it several times a day, and it works great.

Yes, they have removed the Backpack link “due to API issues”.

Chemnitz, the bottom of that page offers an option to add a Backpack link, but when I click on it it takes me to the Google Calendar option. Jott used to have a Backpack link pre-set, but not any more. I wonder if they were having trouble getting their service to work with the Backpack API. Anyone got any ideas or experiences?

Try this link. It might help to login to Jott first.

I can’t find any Backpack link on the Jott link page either. I’d love to try this.

Are you trying to use the “Custom Link” setup? I used the setup that was formatted for Backpack (in the same list where you can select such items as Google Calendar, I Want Sandy, etc.). Then it’s just a matter of giving them your API, and adding “nicknames” for your pages. (However, you can add/edit the nicknames from within Backpack – all they are are tags in the format “jott_pagenickname”.) Hope this helps.

I’m a huge fan of Jott and backpack, but have yet to create any custom links in Jott. Could you give more specific instructions for how you created the link to Backpack? I know how to get my API for my Backpack account, but am not sure about the setup in Jott, which asks for a “Link Name”, “Setup Url” and “Link Url”. Thanks much!

I’ve been a light user of Jott for quite a while now, but have discovered something that suddenly has me calling Jott a lot more often: a “link” to Backpack inside Jott. Once you supply Jott with your Backpack API, you are asked to configure your pages with one-word nicknames (they become tags inside Backpack) – then, call Jott and say, “Add task to [page nickname],” then speak your task. It gets added to the first list on the appropriate page. Wonderful – and free!
