Topic: How are you using Backpack? / For Everything! Well, the spammer bumped this page, but I’m glad they did because I hadn’t read it before. That’s a great idea! |

Topic: Miscellaneous / New features Kiiiind of. The Backpack calendar is much nicer than Google’s and it integrates better with Basecamp. Also, unless I’m missing something, Google doesn’t have anthing which matches the functionality of the other parts of BP. |

Topic: Tips & Tricks / How can I tell how much file is space is being used? That’s right, though it’s pretty inconspicuous. In the account page, just under the “Upgrade or downgrade” label, is some gray text which shows your usage, like so: “You have x pages using xx MB.” |

Topic: Feature Requests / Drag-n-drop by item, rather than list I’m also using Backpack for GTD. Instead of using separate pages for projects, though, I keep them on the front page (called “inbox”.) The topmost list is called “to process,” then a divider, a list for “actions”, another divider, and “projects” below. Each project becomes its own list. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Date completed could be appended when a Todo is checked off Basecamp already does this with its to-dos. It’s a nice implementation. I second this emotion. |

Topic: How are you using Backpack? / Backpack Vs Twine Since I don’t use contexts in my GTD system, Basecamp works pretty well. The home page has been renamed “Inbox” and there are lists in there for “to be processed” and “next actions.” I originally had the next actions on their own page, but found it was more convenient to keep both on the same page. That way they are right in my face every time I fire up backpack. For projects, you could make your own page or keep them as their own lists on your inbox page. Then I made a “Someday Maybe” page and a reference page (mostly bookmarks.) I find the reminder function works really well as a “tickler file” and the calendar is, well, the calendar. I’ve tried more complex programs like iGTD, but I found that the dizzying amount of features, preferences, and myriad ways of arranging your data added too many levels of complexity to what is, ideally, a simple system. GTD should get out of your way so that you can, um, get things done. I find that Backpack does this well. |

Topic: How are you using Backpack? / Backpack vs Basecamp I use both: basecamp for tracking my large projects and backpack as a sort of “to-do” list using the GTD system. If you’re already using basecamp, backpack can still be useful for all the minor stuff that doesn’t really merit being made into a full blown project in basecamp. Also, you can throw all your personal stuff in there. As far as linking, you can use the calendar in backpack to subscribe to your basecamp projects using the ical feed (look on the backpack calendar page for more info and a video.) I’d love it if the calendar was integrated directly into basecamp, but that’s not the way it works right now. |

Topic: Feature Requests / Easier to move items from page to page How do you move items between pages? I can’t seem to make it work. Moving items within a page works just fine, though. |
