Topic: Does Backpack Refresh iCalendars?

I am sharing a Google calendar with a few of my colleagues, I subscribed to it the other day using the ical format. I added an event to the google calendar over 24 hours ago and they’re still not showing up in my backpack calendar.

I love my backpack, but honestly, this ical refresh thing has me a bit sad. :( Can we fix it?

Topic: Does Backpack Refresh iCalendars?

Although most of the changes in my BP calendar from G-Cal are eventually picked up/refreshed, I have a couple of recurring events that have been deleted from G-Cal for about three weeks that still show in the Backpack Calendar. Backpack seems to have “adopted” these and won’t give them up! I cannot delete the recurrence aspect in Backpack – it apparently has put them all in a separate and distinct events, meaning that to delete them I would have to delte each one individually—to eternity, I imagine, since there does not appear to be any end date to these events.

Does anyone know of a way I can remove these other than manually deleting them? (I could spend hours doing that, and since they are mistakenly there – they don’t exist in G-Cal anymore – that error may just keep them there not matter what I do)

Thanks!

Jim

Don’t know if this has been picked up in another thread but I would just have to add my voice to those that have noticed that Backpack does not refresh its iCal feeds on a 1-2 hour basis. Often takes 1-2 days or more in my experience. I often give up waiting and just resubscribe to the calendars. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the iCal feeds b/c they come from Basecamp projects. Has anyone looked into this so see if there is something delaying the code from working the way it is designed to?

+1 Faster iCalendar refreshes
Leaving it for hours just makes a great feature useless.

Hey, I hate to jump on the rolling wagon but – I too love the simplicity of the calendar and despise the refresh rate of it. Even staying within Backpack, my reminders & others calendars (which I guess are also iCal) take too darn long to refresh. There has got to be some server horsepower that you guys can throw at the update jobs to get us refreshed sooner.

I am sure I speak for plenty of people when I say that business can be won or lost in the 2 hours it takes my calendar/reminders to refresh.

Daniel, it’s not “patently false.” Perhaps there’s an exception with your specific calendar or server or situation that is causing delays, but the Backpack code checks subscribed calendars every 1-2 hours. Many thousands of calendars are being checked on schedule every day. Please email support with the specific problem calendar URL so we can look into it. Thanks.

Even one or two hours is too long. My assistant makes appointments for me on a Google Calendar, and I need it to show up much quicker than that. (She can’t make them on my Backpack Calendar, since that’s outside of the TOS, I believe.)

To repeat – I really like the look and feel of Backpack calendar. Faster updating, and handling repeated events properly, would make it something I could recommend.

That’s patently false. Changes made to my lab’s Google Calendar normally take 2-3 days to show up in Backpack.

And repeating events still don’t work if they last longer than a few months, because Backpack doesn’t know about daylight savings time.

iCalendar subscriptions update every one to two hours.

The refresh rate seems to be very slow. I have largely quit using the calendar because of that, and the fact that in the work calendar I subscribe to (from Google Hosted-Domains Calendar), Backpack doesn’t handle the repeating events properly.

I have been trying to use the Backpack calendar for many months now, but just gave up this week because of these problems. I really like the interface, and the six-week view. But it just isn’t ready to be a professional calendar.

I know that I can subscribe to my Backpack calendar in iCal, but I’d rather edit my events in iCal and then view subscribe to them in Backpack. I can subscribe successfully (by copying the URL into the new calendar name), but it never seems to refresh…the only events that are there are the events that were on the iCalendar at the time of subscription. Is it possible to have the Backpack Calendar refresh the calendars it is subscribing to? Does it refresh them automatically? Anyone else have this problem?
