Would selling an app that uses the api be considered selling access to the Service?

I've tweaked some scripts I previously created for Quicksilver to work with LaunchBar. They work great in LaunchBar 5 beta, but haven't been tested in previous versions.

These will allow you to post notes to specific backpack pages, or post tasks to specific lists without having to visit the site. Great for quickly capturing ideas.

You can download them and get all the info at my website: http://fitzage.com/index.php/main/comments/backpack_scripts_for_launchbar/

The API won't let you change the look or fundamental way that Backpack works. What it will let you do is get information from other sources into it and vice-versa. Two examples I've done:

* I made a simple form on a webpage that just lets someone type in the contents of a phone message, and it would be placed as a new note on someone's backpack page.
* I wrote an "Outlook Macro":http://forum.37signals.com/backpack/forums/17/topics/6231#posts-22777 that will take a list you make in Backpack and put it into your tasks in Outlook.

As for programmer, anyone that can use REST Web Services will do. If you can find an "up-to-date Library for the API":http://jf.backpackit.com/pub/73119 , then anyone that knows your language of choice will do.

I'm not clear on what can be achieved via the API facility. Could somebody give me a brief overview of the possibilities? I work with small/medium sized businesses and I'm about to start recommending Backpack so it would be helpful to know to what extent if any it can be customised or integrated into current systems. So when soemone says 'can it do this?' I need to know the type of thing that might and might not be possible via the API and a competent programmer. And how would I go about finding a suitable programmer to work with?
Thanks

After looking at the Backpack Calendar API docs, it seems like there's some serious limitations. Here's my understanding...

Possible with the API:
- get a list of all calendars
- create a new event on a given calendar id
- get an event's info if you know its id

Not Possible with the API:
- get a list of events for a given calendar id
- edit an event
- delete an event

Is it really true that the backpack calendar api doesn't expose methods to let me get a list of events for a calendar, or to edit or delete events?

Well I've tried two different urls to access the xml. The first url that I tried and got the stream error is:

http://USER.backpackit.com/users/USER/status.xml?token=TOKEN

Now when i try the url given on the backpack API page in the CURL example, http://USER.backpackit.com/ws/page/1, I get the html tracing out which is better than a stream error but not really what I need of course. If I try sending in the user token as a variable along with that url I get this:

<html><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html>

I don't know anything about programming against AIR, but the little bit looks correct as far as communicating using the API. Are you using the correct URL? Are you able to use that same URL using CURL?

Hello, I've decided to try out an Adobe AIR application for backpack. Since there is now Adobe has made it easy to create these apps from the Flash authoring I've decided it would be good to work from there.

So, onto the issue that I'm having. I'm trying to grab the user xml but everytime I load it all I recieve is a stream error. Here's some snippet of the code that I'm using so any help or other documents I could look over would be appreciated.

this._request = new URLRequest( this._userUrl + this._userToken);
this._loader = new URLLoader();

this._request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
this._request.contentType = "application/xml";
this._request.authenticate = true;

this._loader.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, this._xmlLoadComplete );
this._loader.addEventListener( IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, this._error );
this._loader.load( this._request );
